Fishing Report 5-9-14

May 9th, 2014 by CaptMike

Looks like the spring weather might finally be here to stay!  The slightly warmer weather has heated the flounder bite up some.  The VFW slough is still producing the best catches.  Anglers putting in time have been rewarded with good catches.  Customers have reported that minnows have been the bait of choice this past week.  GULP is still producing as well.  Some of the larger flounder have been caught in the Lewes canal.  GULP seems to be producing the best in the canal.  Rich Ressler stopped in with a limit of flounder caught in the canal on white GULP!

The stripers have certainly been few and far between compared to previous years.  I had a customer report catching lots of big stripers up north in the Delaware that have not yet spawned out.  Hopefully those fish will be headed our way soon.  There have been a few stripers caught off the surf on bunker.  I’m thinking the stripers should show up in force in the next week.

Puffer fish have also shown up in the surf.  Anglers from Fenwick to Cape Henlopen are seeing good numbers of puffers.  Most are taking small pieces of clam and are close to the wash.
