The catchin' is still going on, just not at the pace we would like to see. Tog fishing is hit or miss on inshore structure such as Site #10. One day will be good and the next day not so good. Striper fishing in the Indian River Inlet has been productive for most although most fish are still on the short side of 28 inches. Bob Cleveland on Deputy Dog put 2 linesiders in the box from the Inlet. They measured 34 and 29 inches. Capt. Chuck Cook of First Light Charters has been putting his clients on the fish. Jim Ranieri and Bobby Brown of Dover, De. fished with Capt.Chuck on Site #10 and tore the tog up with fish up to 7.6 pounds. If you want to charter a good day of fishing, contact Capt. Chuck at www.firstlightcharters.net or call him at 302-853-8717.
Final results of the Rick’s Bait and Tackle / SeaSide Gas & Grill Striper Tourn. Had Jeff Marks taking 1st Place and the Calcutta with a 30.8 pounder.
Joe Lombardo took 2nd with a 28.6 pounder and Joe Perry took 3rd with a 27.4 pounder. Congrats to all! Striper fishing continues a gradual improvement with a lot of fish still up north. Capt. Chuck cook of First Light Charters took Garret Perdick and Bob Mattei to Indian River Inlet where they scored 9 stripers to 30 inches while casting plugs. George Mood fished the North Pocket Beach at Indian River to score a 29 inch striper. Massey’s Ditch is still giving up small stripers at night and the Inlet Jetties are holding tog. A HUGE thank you to Capt. Mike Rivera of “On Delivery Sportfishing” for doing a super job at the 1st Rick’s Bait and Tackle Fishing Seminar Friday night. Also a HUGE Thank you to all those who attended. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and picked up a pointer or two. I look forward to doing this on a regular basis starting in February or March. Stay tuned for more info. Now go catch some fish!
Slowly but surely the stripers are starting to show up. The mouth of Delaware Bay seems to still be the best chance for a shot at a big striper. This past weekend there were some nice fish taken and it seems there were more bluefish mixede in. Fishing should continue to improve as the stripers continue to migrate south. Bobby Parker, on "Mis BeHavin'" took Vic Gross and Stu Wilhellm to the 8's to score stripers to 21 pounds and blues to 10 pounds while drifting eels. Indian River Inlet is starting to give up more keeper stripers and still holds plenty if shorties. Live eels or black salties are working well at both locations. I think the best fishing is yet to come. Don't forget to be at the Rick's Bait and Tackle Seminar friday night Dec. 2nd from 9 P.M. to 11 P.M. at the Texas Grill on Long Neck Road. Capt. Mike Rivera we discuss wreck fishing and striper fishing. Should be the perfect opportunity to pick up a few new ideas. Complimentary coffee and ice tea. Ten dollars per ticket available at the door. Cash Bar and Food Menu available also. Hope to see you there.
The mouth of Delaware Bay still seems to be the place to score the stripers. Things have surely not heated to a boil, but there are some nice fish being taken. Live eels, live spot, black salties, and buctails tipped with a white worm are all producing fish. For the guys trolling Stretches it seems that chartruese is the color the linesiders favor. Tog are still being taken at the wall and the Haystacks but catching has slowed quite a bit.
Indian River Inlet is holding plenty of stripers although most are on the short side of 28 inches. Keepers are there and slowly growing in numbers. Jeff Marks took over the #1 spot in The Rick’s bait & Tackle / SeaSide Gas and Grill Striper Tournament with a 30.8 pounder taken from the Inlet while drifting a black salty. Don’t forget about the Rick’s Bait & Tackle Seminar Series starting Dec. 2nd at the Texas Grill on Long neck Rd. Guest speaker will be Capt. Mike Rivera of On Delivery Charters. Don’t miss out on an informative and fun night with a group of fishermen.
Striper fishing is improving as water temps drop. The mouth of Delaware Bayis the spot where most of the action is taking place. The bigger fish are being taken between the 8’s and in The Valley or at Overfalls Shoal. Live eel,
Live spot, black salties, or Stretches on the troll are the tickets. Joe Lombardo,
Joe Perry, and Tom Casner are bangin’ em up in the Rick’s Bait & Tackle / SeaSide Gas & Grill Striper Tournament. The guys are fishing on Tom’s boat,
( Get The Net) are have the first three spots filled. Joe Lombardo at 28.6 pounds,
Joe Perry at 27.4 pounds and Tom Casner at 25.2 pounds. The Haas boys, Bobby and Greg, along with buddy Mike, had the “Deep Passion” to the 8’s to score an 18 pound striper. Indian River Inlet seems to be holding plenty of fish with the problem being most are on the short side of 28 inches. This will change for sure. Don’t forget to be at the fishing seminar December 2nd at the Texas Grill on Long Neck Road. Wreck fishing and striper fishing techniques will be presented from 9 P.M. to 11 P.M. by Capt. Mike Rivera of On Delivery Sportfishing. Don’t miss it!
Weather seems to be the main factor in the lack of fishing info lately. Water temps are not quite
low enough foir the larger stripers to appear and the wind has kept most tog fishermen off the wrecks.
Surf fishing has also been tough. Steve Ferenczi and Larry Right fished the inner wall for a nice catch of 15 tog to 5.2 pounds using green crab. The wall has been the spot to be lately if you are looking to score some tog. The haystacks have also been holding some nice tog. If you are looking for some good reading and some good video, check out ( delfish.net). The saltwater side sure could use some input and we would love to have you sign on and participate. Keep checking back as there will be some info available shortly concerning a series of seminars we will be holding locally. Hope to see lots of you folks there and we will be taking requests as to what you would like to see in the future.
DON'T FORGET TO CHECK BACK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
'Til next time, have Fun and Be Safe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone is waiting for the stripers to arrive. Indian River Inlet is holding plenty of shorties along with bluefish. Don and Tina Thomas fished the Inlet Saturday and scored short stripers. Massey’s Ditch is still holding tog, short stripers, and bluefish. Remember the flounder season is closed as of Oct. 24th and sea bass reopens Nov.1st. Capt. Chuck Cook of First Light Charters has been putting his parties on tog and triggerfish in 85 feet of water. Take a look at delfish.net for some good info and freshwater video. We will be adding saltwater video in the future.
Capt. Bill Baker tells us Larry Grimm, Millsboro, weighed in a 7.50 pound, 24" flounder caught on clam while fishing on the "Thelma Dale". Tom Bailor and Gene McMillan caught 2 bushels of large #1 crabs at Gull Point. Received an email from Jim Bender: "I was drifting Baker's Channel opposite the island from Massey's Ditch last Saturday and pulled in a 23" flounder using a flashy green/silver Mylar bucktail behind a spoon with a live minnow." "We just got back from Site7 with 17 tog that we caught on green crabs. .We only fished about an hour. .There was a barge there unloading tons of concrete between Site 6 & 7." ‘Til next week, have Fun and Be Safe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am not a fan of cold weather but if the water would cool down we should get some better fishing activity. Indian River Inlet is giving up some blues and stripers, along with a few flounder. Most fish are on the short side of keeper but at least they put a bend in the rod. Pat Kost was fishing the Inlet for flounder when a 10.6 pound striper decided it was time for a snack. Way to go Pat. Indian River and Rehoboth Bay have been giving up flounder but most are real small. Massey’s Ditch is proving flounder, blues and stripers and once again most are small. Tog are also in Massey’s and some keepers are being caught. Tog fish at the Wall has been fairly productive.
Capt. Bill Baker tells us Roger Aeo caught an 8 pound sheephead at Indian River Inlet this past Saturday using green crabs. Another customer reported catching an 8 1/2# sheepshead at the Outer Wall on sand fleas this past weekend. A customer reported seeing several keeper stripers caught at IRI in the 34" range. He also reported several beak-offs of large stripers. Tom Griffith and friend Tom fished the Wall and both limited out on tog. They were using both green crabs and sand fleas and said both were effective. Ronald Chester, Oxford, Pa., caught a citation. 10.55#, 21.5" sheepshead at the Outer Wall using sand fleas. Tom Hudecheck caught a citation sheepshead at 11.08 pounds and 24" long on green crabs at the Haystacks. My grandson, Joey Neely, my son, Bill Jr., his girlfriend, Ellen White and my daughter, Sue Killen went with me on the "Slicker 3" to the shipping lanes. We caught a lot of sea bass with a 25 to 1 ratio of keepers to throw backs. We also boated some croaker. It was non- stop action all day long. Larry Grimm of Millsboro weighed in a 7.50 pound 24inch flounder caught on clam while fishing on the Thelma Dale. Tom Bailor and Gene McMillan at Gull Point caught 2 bushels of lg #1 crabs From Captain Carey Evans, Grizzley sport fishing charters After having a slower month in September we are off to the races here in early October. Tog fishing has already shown some good results along with some triggerfish and sheepshead to keep things interesting. Tog fishing should do nothing but improve as the waters cool this month. Striper fishing will be right around the corner as well.
What a great weekend to be on the water or on the surf. Fishing on the surf was a challenge for anglers fishing the DMS and Ocean City Surf Tournaments. Most of the fish being caught were short of scoring length. Congratulations to the guys on my Rick’s Bait and Tackle Surf Team, who placed tied at 11th in the OC Tournament. I know the guys fished their hearts out ! Remember, the sport is fishing, not catching. I did not have the results of the DMS Tournament at the time of this report.
Bob Cleveland and Denny Raber fished inshore favorites and scored about 19 nice sea bas in the cooler. Capt. Eric Ludwig and party also scored sea bass, a huge porgy, and some nice flounder. Tony dambro and Bill Kemmerer fished Site #11 and got covered up in small sea bass. Tog are being taken on the outer wall and at Massey’s Ditch.
Offshore action was a bit slow but Tom Hinchman and Wayne Holman teamed up to boat bunch of mahi while trolling near the Elephant Trunk.
Capt Bill reported Chuck Nagle, Bill's Sport Shop, fishing at Massey's Ditch, said the large croaker bite was still good. He also had 4 throwback flounder and said there are a lot of blues there as well. On another trip, Chuck Nagle, fished Massey's on the opening day of tog and nailed 3 keepers. He also had 2 large croakers up to 14", a throwback striper and 5 seabass all on sand fleas. Josh and Jeremy, drifting the IRI, had 3 keeper stripers up to 12#, all caught on eels. The "Marie Ann" reported that on Tues. they hit the Baltimore and hooked up with 3 whites, a sailfish, dolphin and some skippies. Kerry Lodish was fishing the Wall with sandfleas and came away with 5 keeper tog up to 17". Bully Bob reported a trip with a bunch of his 'athletes'. They went out on the "Katydid" (Capt. Brent & Dave) out of Lewes DE, and ended the day with 220 sea bass, 2 triggers, 2 flounder, 5 blues, 10 cod, 8 ling cod, 1 tog and lots of stories. As we waited to get the fish cleaned, the cold front and rain came through. Captain Aaron Hurd of "Gale Force Charters" out of Indian River Marina runs a charter primarily inshore in the Indian River Inlet and the Back Bays, a great family experience. He had the Mullahey Family out for a trip on Sunday and they caught 8 bluefish and a 29" keeper striper also several throw back flounder using minnows for bait. On Friday afternoon, they landed two 22" stripers and several throw back flounder all on minnows.
Mother Nature seems to have a problem with anglers fishing the ocean lately. On the few occasions that you could venture out the fishing was fairly good. Sea bass were being taken between DB and DA Buoy. Tog fishing should be picking up on Site #10. The outer wall is giving up some nice tog to sand fleas and green crabs. Back Bay activity remains fair to good. Tog, blues, croaker, and flounder are being caught at Massey’s Ditch. Flounder, blues, and stripers are in Indian River Inlet. Live eels or bucktails are tricking the stripers and most are short of 28 inches. Keeper flounder have been taken just inside the inlet and the north end of Massey’s Ditch. Good ole minnow and squid seems to be doing the trick. If we get a streak of good weather allowing the water to clean up the fishing should be great! Capt. Brent Weist on “KatyDid” out of Lewes has been putting his parties on great catches of sea bass, cod, flounder, bluefish, and tog.Capt. Bill Baker reported fishing at Savages Ditch, Bill, Bob, Norman and Joe caught the incoming tide. Using mostly whole mullet rigs, they were able to beach a few small blues and release a couple of small thresher sharks. The water being a little dirty and seaweed infested, also produced a couple of king fish on small top & bottom rigs, all with fresh mullet. After the outgoing tide changed, the seaweed just about disappeared. George Mood stopped in to tell us that at Cape Henelpoen today, using fresh mullet, he caught a lot of small blues with an occasional larger one 14+", lots of sand sharks and very large kingfish-almost citation size. He also is directing the DMS 2011 Tournament, and said to get an application, e-mail him at

From Deanna at Hookem’ & Cookem’ Bait & Tackle in North Shore Marina
we are told that tog are starting to bite on the inshore wrecks had 2 boats come in withnice catches. Using green crabs, but you have to have that skill to get them. If you don't you are out of luck.Today, Keith Orendorf of Camp Hill PA, went to the Clammer and boated 8 keepers, Jimmy and Johnny Coffiey, of Wilmington, DE went out Friday and came back with 50lbs of tog. Flounder are still biting in the inlet. You will find more throw backs than keepers , but still finding keepers.Using Gulp 6" mullet New penny, glow or chartreuse, squid and minnows or fresh mullet.
