Hi Folks,Striper fishing continues to improve although most fish are short
of the 28 inch mark. Indian River Inlet has been providing plenty of action
to those soaking fresh bunker or drifting live eels. Bucktails with a white
curltail worm is also working well. John Klerlein has been banging up the
stripers in the inlet. The striper action can also be found upriver but once again
most fish will be short. This can provide for a great day of fishing fun on light
tackle. Catch and Release is something we all should think a lot more about. Tog
fishing remains fair to good for those soaking green crabs or sand fleas at Site #10
or the Inlet rocks, or Massey’s Ditch. There have been some nice tog caught at Massey’s
compared to past years. In the Rick’s bait & Tackle / Sea Side Gas & Grill Striper Tounament, ShawnSmith leads the way with a catch of 20 pounds 4 ounces. Ron Boyer
is 2nd with an 18 Lb. 1oz striper and Jim Fluharty is 3rd with an 18 pounder. Bill Gable is
currently 4th with a 16 Lb 3oz linesiderbut is confident he will bring the “BIG ONE” to the scales.
Joe Morris at Lewes Harbour Marina said the Lewes Harbour Tog Tournament finished up Saturday. A 9.98 pounder caught by tautog sharpie Herbie Shorthose hung in for First Place. Mike Newsham’s 9.54 pound white chin captured Second. Michael Osberg took Third with an 8.92 pound blackfish. Togging remains good, with consistent action along the Inner and Outer Walls and Ice Breakers. Limit catches were not uncommon among toggers working the rocks. Tog also came from reef sites 6 and 7 at Brown Shoal, and reef 8 the Star Site. Best bites occurred during slower running currents with clean water. Green crabs, sand fleas, Asian crabs and Gulp! artificials were productive baits. Some of the citation tautog checked in during the week included a 9.54 pounder Chris Adams caught at the Ice Breakers aboard Jam-Man, Paul Hazzard’s 8.46 pounder, an 8 pound tog for Paul Harris and a 7.4 pounder by Paul Briglia, both taken on the Angler, and the 7.1 pounder landed by Patti Lush. Water temperatures are still in the upper 50’s, and tog fishing should get even better as temps cool down. Striped basswere found on structure at the mouth of Delaware Bay. Drifting live eels and spot, trolling Stretch Plugs, and casting jigs such as bucktails tipped with Gulp! Jerk Shads and Sand Eels all yielded stripers. Some of the largest linsidersiders were taken from the lower end of Sixty Foot Slough at the “C&B” by chunkers using cut bunker. The guys on Skipjack bucktailed 3 keeper bass to 16.4 pounds at 8B Buoy Saturday. At the time of this writing, 10 a.m. Sunday morning, the crew on the Skipjack already had 10 bass in the box while livelining spot at 8B. Fred Stokes was drifting an eel at 8B Buoy aboard the Angler when he connected with a 24.4 pound rockfish. Ken Pierson caught a 26.5 pound striper while eeling on Overfalls Friday. Trolling Stretch 18+ and 25+ plugs at Overfalls produced some nice rock for Evan, Kyle and Phil Falgowski, including Phil’s 23.6 pounder. Ray Peyreferry used an eel to tempt his 19.1 pounder. The Lewes Harbour Striper Tournament is on now through November 24. Currently, Ryan Falgowski is in the lead with a 24.6 pounder. Jeff Gardiner holds Second and Third with bass of 18.7 and 16.3 pounds. ‘Til next week, Have Fun and Be Safe!!!!!!!!!
